Baden-Württemberg

About Swr1 Radio

On August 30, 1998, the two SWR1 programs emerged as a result of the merging of Südwestfunk (SWF) and Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR). The former SWF1 broadcasting area was confined to Rhineland-Palatinate, and the studio was relocated to Mainz. The remaining broadcasting area in southern Baden-Württemberg was amalgamated with the previous broadcasting area of SDR1. This meant that the earlier separation of Baden-Württemberg into French and American occupation zones, which had been transferred to broadcasting by the postwar political order, was likewise removed from broadcasting.
